As an intern, not only will you be able to immerse yourself in African cultures and experiences while building your resume, but you will also be placed at locations thriving with travel and adventure opportunities. You will stay in a fully furnished house situated in the location of your internship. Whilst all bedding is provided, you will need to bring your own towels. Typically you will be staying alongside African Impact volunteers, which will afford you the opportunity to meet likeminded people from all over the world. The joint accommodation also serves as a great place for gatherings like barbecues, social events, game and quiz nights. You will be provided with three meals a day.

Each destination brings its unique attributes – both cultural, linguistic and natural beauty. South Africa is known as the rainbow nation and has 11 official languages and the locations where you will be interning you will be exposed to at least 6 of these!

In Cape Town you see the seventh natural wonder of the world, Table Mountain, from every angle…while no mountain range compares to the majesty found in Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

In St. Lucia, you get to watch the mighty snap of the Hippo and work in a local Zulu village, where in Kruger you are entirely surrounded by the African Big 5.

Fancy the Victoria Falls in Livingstone or monitoring the behavior of dolphins in Zanzibar? We have it all! Not only is the internship program with AIF a great opportunity for you to gain valuable work experience in the Non-Governmental Organisation sector, it is also an unforgettable and deeply enriching time and a chance to immerse yourself in a new culture in a beautiful location.

During the community development internship your primary role will be as a representative of the African Impact Foundation and you will be responsible for managing the charity’s projects at your chosen location. Projects are varied depending on the country, town, or community that you will be working in.

Projects in both Cape Town and the Greater Kruger Area, South Africa allow you to be immersed in the local culture while experiencing the beauty, wildlife and adventures of the natural surrounds. The rural areas suffer from a lack of government services like education and healthcare, and battle with poverty and the effects of the HIV epidemic.

They are in dire need of medical assistance, HIV education and empowerment for vulnerable populations like youth and pregnant mothers. You will have the opportunity to aid in a number of ways, including fundraising for rural clinics, gardens, preschools and feeding programs as well as overseeing income generating initiatives such as craft making.

One of the busiest African Impact programs is located in Livingstone, Zambia, where, as an intern, you will grassroots projects, writing and grant proposals as well as event planning. The diversity of the projects at this location allows involvement in refurbishment projects, work with children and youth as well as medical outreach and awareness.

Other options for an African internship placement is in Jambiani, a rural village on the east coast of Zanzibar Island, and a placement on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The unemployment rates in these areas of Tanzania are extremely high with most people living at subsistence level. As an intern, you will spend between six and 12 months living at an African Impact project base and liaise closely with the African Impact Project Manager and be involved in community partnerships and relations.

In addition, you will also be involved directly with the management of donations and the supervision of the implementation of all funds. This will include all financial aspects as well as monitoring, evaluating and reporting on all donations. You will be responsible for raising awareness and fundraising for the African Impact Foundation within the local town.
