In this amazing Zambezi Classic Long Canoe Safari you will have an opportunity to discover incredible scenery of the Zambezi Valley as well as Kakomarara Island, Chikwenya Island, exploring the shoreline of Chewore which is a home of the Great Elephant and canoeing in the Mupata Gorge. You will enjoy in the amazing wildlife and have an opportunity to take a photos of the stunning sunrise on the river. This Safari begins and ends in Kariba and it is for minimum 2 persons.

Day 1

18 km: On the first morning of your safari you will be collected and taken to Natureways office for check-in. All extra luggage and valuables must be handed over for safe keeping. You are advised not to carry your passport on the river! After a briefing on the trip you will start your trip. Next we stop at the local shops to allow you to purchase any additional personal items, snacks and drinks you would like. Please carry US Dollars cash in small denominations for this purpose. Upon arrival at the starting point, luggage will be portered into the gorge and your group will walk the 1.5km down to the river. Note, this is quite strenuous. All canoes and camping equipment will have already been carried into the gorge and packed. A safety talk and demonstration on paddling skills will precede the launch. Paddling will stop at lunch time. After a picnic lunch, time for a siesta. As the heat wanes, paddling will resume until you reach you camp site at Crocodile Rocks Island. There will be time for a bucket bath, then dinner and a chat around the campfire.

Day 2

27 km: Up early at sunrise. Enjoy tea/coffee and biscuits to keep your energy up. Canoe for a couple of hours and stop for a leisurely breakfast. After breakfast, set off once again, enjoying the incredible scenery of the Zambezi Valley. A lunch stop will be made at a suitable spot. After that, time for a siesta during the hottest part of the day. The day will end in the early evening when you arrive at your second campsite at Twin Logs Island.

Day 3

28 km: The day starts early with tea/coffee and biscuits. By 11am you will reach the re-supply point at Chirundu where supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables will be sourced for the second leg of the journey. Paddling resumes after a light lunch, continuing to the night stop at Kakomarara Island.

Day 4

27 km: Up at sunrise for tea/coffee and biscuits then breakfast before you start canoeing. Paddle up to noon when you stop for lunch and an afternoon siesta. Time to catch up on a bit of reading, fishing or snoozing. Paddle until sunset to your night camp on Lone Acacia Island.

Day 5

23 km: Another day of leisurely paddling. Enjoy the wildlife who come to the river to drink and bathe. Stop for lunch and a break. Then paddle on to your overnight camp at Trichelia Island.

Day 6

20 km: This day is pretty much the same as day five. Begin early during the cool hours of the day and paddle to your lunch stop at midday. Rest during the afternoon and get back on the water as the day begins to cool down. The group will paddle until early evening where camp will be made on Chikwenya Island.

Day 7

25 km: Up at dawn for tea/coffee and biscuits. Take a few photos of the stunning sunrise on the river. After a brief paddle you will stop for breakfast on the banks of the river or on an island. Afterwards, back on the water until lunchtime. Rest for a while in the shade then resume canoeing to False Gorge.

Day 8

20 km: The day will be spent exploring the shoreline of Chewore, home of the Great Elephant. Take photos of the stunning scenery. Camp will be made at Mupata Gorge.

Day 9

35 km: You are up and about very early as usual. Get on the water and make some headway before the day heats up. Most of the day you will be canoeing in the Mupata Gorge. Enjoy the parade of wildlife and the dramatic geographical features. This night’s campsite will be established at the base of the towering Red Cliffs.

Day 10

7 km: After the early wake-up and breakfast, you will paddle down to the take-out point at Kanyemba. Equipment will be loaded onto the vehicle and the group transferred back to Kariba. Arrival time in Kariba is approximately 4 pm.
