This essential construction program was created to help impoverished families into safe and sanitary homes. Housing is a fundamental human right under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and everyone should have a safe, secure and habitable home. Unfortunately in the poorest areas of Siam Reap, many people do not have adequate housing. This program matches willing volunteers with local staff to create a project team to work on a one week house build that will be productive, safe, challenging, fun, and most importantly, will drastically improve the lives of impoverished families. No prior building experience is necessary – just lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in to help improve the lives of others. Volunteers can expect to get their hands dirty – and paint, hammer, saw, clean, build, demolish – it’s all there waiting for some amazing volunteers to help! The families and the entire community are genuinely thankful of all of the support volunteers can give them.

Goals of this Project:

  • Provide low-cost, quality housing to impoverished families
  • Provide safe, healthy homes to enable families to live happier, healthier lives
  • Improve the future prospects of some of Siam Reap’s most impoverished people, and help them to break the poverty cycle
  • Expose volunteers and locals to new cultures

On this awesome project volunteers will be part of a group who have become a part of something very unique. Love Volunteer’s team on the ground will have everything organized – all volunteers need to do is show up with their passion, enthusiasm, energy and their empathy. No prior DIY or building experience is required. The local team work with volunteers all day to ensure that they understand everything that needs to be done, that their work is manageable and safe and that they have all of the tools and materials required. Easy! Volunteers will gain an amazing experience, lifelong friends and the satisfaction of giving back to those in need! It’s a win/win! By working to supply those in need with a safe place to call home, volunteers are playing a huge part in improving the lives of many.

Volunteers will contribute in a number of ways and can expect to undertake the following tasks:

  • Work collaboratively in a team
  • Network with local staff and local families
  • Work on foundations
  • Build houses
  • Move construction materials
  • Paint

Volunteers are met on arrival into Siem Reap and taken to the Volunteer House to meet with the hosts and other volunteers and settle in to the new environment. An orientation session will take place, normally on the Monday, which covers the local area, public transport, amenities, customs, rules and recommendations and of course, what to expect from your volunteering experience.  This provides a great opportunity to get to know your hosts and fellow volunteers and ask any last questions you may have.

  • Arrival Day: SUNDAY
  • Departure Day: SATURDAY
  • Arrival Airport: Siem Reap International Airport, Siem Reap, Cambodia (Code: REP)

Volunteers on this amazing program are accommodated in a centrally located and well-equipped Volunteer House in stunning Siem Reap.  A great opportunity to explore this vibrant town as well as its historically significant surroundings.

Rooms are twin or triple share and split by gender.  Each room has its own bathroom with western style facilities and hot showers. Linen is provided so volunteers need only cater for their personal toiletries and towel. Air-conditioning is available for a small charge during the summer months.

Wifi is available throughout the house free of charge and volunteers have use of kitchen facilities and ample indoor and outdoor seating which makes meal-times an enjoyable way to relax and socialize.

Laundry services can be found in town for very little cost and the local team will point these out.

Volunteers on our programs in Siem Reap are provided with lunch daily during the week at the project site.

Breakfast and dinner (as well as lunch on weekends) can either be prepared in the communal and well-equipped kitchen at the Volunteer house (food markets and shops are close by) or eaten out at one of the many restaurants, cafes and street food stalls within easy walking distance of the volunteer house. Eating out is a great way to explore the town and enjoy the atmosphere and delicious food on offer!

Siem Reap is very popular with tourists so restaurants abound in the town, serving both local and a wide range of international cuisines so there will be something to suit every palate. Super easy!

Registration Fee: The registration fee is USD 299 for those volunteering for the first time or USD 149 for any subsequent volunteer placements. The registration fee includes: lifetime Alumni Membership, fundraising support & advice, dedicated pre-departure support, certificate of completion (on request), and exclusive access to the Trip Planner.

Requirements: We welcomes all those 18 years and over who wish to have a tangible and lasting impact on the lives of families and communities facing extreme poverty in Cambodia. This ‘hands-on’ project is ideally suited to those volunteers with some knowledge and experience in construction or any of the building trades, however the project is open to all and does not require participants to have specific education, qualifications or experience, as you will be shown everything you need to know by your local project leader. Importantly though, all applicants must first and foremost have a genuine willingness to help, be fit and active, show drive and initiative, and bring a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. If this sounds like you, we want you on the team!

Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:

  • Emergency contact

Project Location: Siem Reap’s life as a quaint Cambodian village has been shot into the limelight  by its proximity to Angkor Wat. The UNESCO listed World Heritage site is an incredible testament to the history of this people and an absolute must see for visitors to South East Asia. Despite, or perhaps because of, the many visitors who pass this way, Siem Reap has retained a village charm and convivial atmosphere that is relaxed and welcoming. The people are incredibly friendly and you can’t help but be captivated by this village of smiles.

Start Dates & Duration: This project is available year-round and programs start the every SUNDAY. Volunteers can choose to participate for periods ranging from 1 week to 2 weeks.
